University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust chooses Civica’s Cito system to support digital journey to integrated care
New five-year contract supports the Trust’s paperless strategy to improve clinical safety, advance integrated care while enhancing patient outcomes
Civica, a market leader in business-critical software applications, digital solutions and managed services has agreed a five-year contract with University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) to implement its digital health platform Cito.
Civica’s cloud-enabled electronic document management system (EDMS) and clinical information management system will boost clinical safety, improve patient outcomes and enhance integrated health care for the Trust.
Civica is a longstanding partner of UHL which has used its EDMS, WinDIP since 2014. This major new upgrade, which includes full migration to the flexible and responsive browser-agnostic system Cito, will support and deliver on UHL’s future improvement plan. The software will also help drive the Trust’s Paperless Hospital 2020 strategy.
UHL is one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts, serving one million residents in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Its internationally-renowned specialist treatment and services in cardio-respiratory diseases, cancer and renal disorders reach a further two to three million patients from the rest of the country. The Trust has over 15,000 employees including clinicians, non-clinical support workers, clinical and non-clinical leaders.
With its advanced integration capabilities, Cito will now provide the Trust with intuitive and responsive real-time, single-view clinical access to critical patient information. This will allow improved quality of service and care, heightened standards of clinical safety and enhanced employee productivity and resource management. Via better information sharing, it will seamlessly manage clinical documentation across the Trust’s four hospitals, namely The General, Glenfield, Royal Infirmary and Children’s Hospitals.
This seamless digital integration will also enhance operational efficiencies to provide benefits across the Trust. This includes more effective assessment outcomes, faster referral processes and delivery of real-time access to critical information at the point of care.
John Clarke, Chief Information Officer at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust said: “The EDMS is one of our core enabling blocks to deliver our vision for a paperless hospital. Phase 1 will be upgrading from WinDIP to Cito, followed by a transition from disparate clinical records held in paper and electronic form across multiple locations into a single document management store. This will provide the longitudinal patient record for our clinicians to access anywhere, anytime to support clinical care.”
David Roots, Executive Director, Health & Care, Civica, added: “We’re delighted to extend our partnership with UHL as it moves to our Cito system. The software supports the Trust on its digital journey to enhance care and patient outcomes through better records integration. We now look forward to partnering with UHL to achieve its paperless vision by 2020.”
With a 30-year track record in the health sector, Civica delivers critical software solutions to over 400 customers across the NHS and private care sector: from electronic prescribing and patient records to enhanced care pathways. The company provides cloud delivery to more than 20,000 clinicians, facilitates the scanning of 150 million documents and images and processes £60bn of NHS funds annually.
