Civica software to transform referrals and support digital journey for Moorfields Eye Hospital

Civica’s digital health solution Cito will improve patient referrals process and enhance patient care

Civica, a global leader in software for public services, has signed a five-year contract with Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to implement its cloud-based digital health platform Cito.

Following a competitive tender process, Civica’s Cito platform will digitise more than 120,000 patient referrals each year. This will make Moorfields’ referrals process more efficient and cost-effective than the current system which requires each referral to be printed (if from the national e-Referral system) and scanned.

Civica’s Cito platform will transform how referrals are managed, as the software fully integrates with Moorfield’s existing system. This integration removes the need for local printing and scanning referrals as documents are automatically captured and allocated into Cito’s Patient Repository and Workflow engine for electronic triage by the relevant clinician.

The Cito platform will help Moorfields make efficiency savings by removing the processing overhead of printing and scanning referrals from e-RS, as well as improvements in the overall referral triage workflow process.

Its use will also offer Moorfields better data insight and audit of referrals, including referral numbers, date received and speciality. This information will give the Trust a better understanding of referral habits, helping it to forecast referrals behaviours and plan for the future.

Steve Brain, Executive Director, Health & Care, Civica, commented: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Moorfields Eye Hospital as it moves to our Cito platform. Cito will maximise productivity for the Trust, increase visibility from a single platform to aid better care planning and ultimately enhance the patient experience.”

With a 30-year track record in the health sector, Civica delivers software and services solutions to over 500 health and care providers across the UK, Australia, Canada and the USA: from electronic prescribing and patient records to enhanced workforce efficiency. The company provides cloud delivery to more than 20,000 clinicians, facilitates the scanning of 150 million documents and images and processes £60bn of NHS funds annually.

The company was recently named ‘Technology Provider of the Year’ at the HealthInvestor IT Awards for its role in providing a range of cloud software, digital solutions and managed services to help both the NHS and residential and community care sector transform digitally.

The latest contract follows recent agreements for Civica’s cloud-based Cito software with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
