Autumn statement: Civica CEO welcomes key commitments around AI and health data

23rd November 2023

Civica CEO, Lee Perkins said:

“The Chancellor’s Autumn Statement signaled a clear recognition of the transformative role the UK tech sector is playing both for our economy and for citizens.

“From local government, to education, to healthcare, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already playing a key role in the delivery of vital public services. The Chancellor’s announcement of an additional £500 million will help to further unlock the enormous untapped potential of this transformative technology, for public bodies and the people they serve.

“It’s also very encouraging to see greater investment in initiatives to harness data across our health services. At Civica, we’ve been privileged to partner with Kent & Medway Cancer Alliance on a successful pilot to harness data to detect and prevent cancer. Data remains an underexploited asset, both for our health services and for our public services more broadly.

“Finally, we welcome the £50 million investment in apprenticeships across key growth sectors. As a member of the 5% Club*, we at Civica have first-hand experience of the vital role apprenticeships play in helping to build and nurture the skills of the future and we look forward to hearing more from the Government about this initiative”.
