Civica successfully completes remote deployment of Coroners software at Kent County Council

29th June 2020

Dealing with the grim reality of Covid – Civica’s Coroners cloud platform provided enhanced digital efficiency for Kent coroners.

The software supports Kent’s drive to digitalise the whole Coroners service; making it completely paperless and reducing storage capacity.

At a time when working from any location is critical, cloud was an important requirement. The Coroners team no longer need access to their remote desktop. The ability to access the system remotely from any location, on any connected device, has already significantly increased case progress and resolution.

Angie Sanders, Group Service Development Officer at Kent County Council said: “The biggest improvement we’ve seen is that our team can progress cases from home which offers flexibility for the service in the future as well as providing us with time savings, not only reducing, but removing some of our administrative tasks completely.”

Built on the Civica Case Management , the software has enabled third parties, such as registrars, hospitals and funeral directors, to submit referrals via a digital portal rather than using email and paper-based communications. Once referred, cases are automatically created – a more efficient process that has also improved the speed of case progression.

Sanders added: “As we were already providing an online referral solution for our GP’s and Hospital’s we had to transfer over to the new online portal on the same day. We immediately started to see the benefits of the portal as it was much more stable, and the referring doctors were able to upload relevant documentation along with their referral. We have also seen a decrease in the number of telephone calls and emails we use to receive on a weekly basis because of issues with the portal.”

Despite the current pandemic situation, Civica was able to deploy the cloud software completely remotely, without any need to access Kent’s offices. Vital project meetings and training were delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Despite being in ‘lockdown’, we were able to go live remotely. With a great deal of support from Civica, our staff felt they had the support to not only learn a new way of working but also do this while getting used to working from home.
