Global services provider ISS enlists Civica Catering Management to fight food waste in Scandinavia

  • Global facilities management provider ISS to roll out Civica Catering Management (formerly Saffron) across 450 sites in Norway
  • Market-leading catering management solution developed by UK-based global software provider Civica, already used across 17,000 sites in 10 countries

Global facility management provider ISS Facility Services has enlisted the support of Civica's catering management software to help tackle food waste across its 450 sites in Norway.

Civica Catering Management, a marketing leading solution developed by UK-based global software provider Civica, is used by more than 300 customers across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, and Sweden to help identify exactly when and where food waste occurs, right down to specific times of the day. Armed with this information, clients can make more informed decisions to proactively tackle food waste, ranging from better stock control to managing portion sizes.

ISS has committed to reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions within scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and full-scope net zero emissions by 2040, including its full supply chain. Reducing food waste is a key priority, and the company has set ambitious targets to slash waste across its thousands of locations around the world, by working closely with its customers and employing smart technologies. Key factors which led to the choice of Civica Catering Management for this task included: the straightforward addition of a new module to a system already deployed, ease of use across multiple sites and the partnership approach the company has enjoyed over the past five years working with Civica.

Phil Jones,

Managing Director, Catering Management

Food waste is a serious environmental and societal challenge, as recognised by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As with any complex problem, the key to tackling it lies in having a much deeper understanding of the causes, and it is here that smart, data-driven software has a critical role to play. Better data drives smarter decisions and better outcomes.

Our market leading catering management software is already helping customers to tackle the causes of food waste across the UK. We’re delighted to be helping ISS fight against food waste in Norway and to support them on their journey towards greater sustainability across their global operations.

Mats Sommerseth,

Operations Performance Director,

ISS Facility Services in Norway

At ISS, we are more ambitious and proactive than ever in our sustainability efforts. As a major player within food solutions for the workplace, both in Norway and globally, we have an obligation to drive food sustainability. Our goal is to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the food we serve globally by 25 percent by 2030, from our 2019 baseline. In addition, we will halve the amount of food waste by 2027. In close cooperation with our clients and innovative technology partners, such as Civica, we are rolling out concepts using smart solutions and data to manage and reduce food waste and emissions. These efforts will be intensified going forward.
