Civica team takes on Ben Nevis challenge to raise money for charity

12th May 2022

Carrie Walker, Holly Emery and Kelly Boland are driving up to the Scottish Highlands to climb the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, on Friday 17th June.

The trio will be taking on a 17km route that includes an astonishing ascent of over 1,350 metres. While two have conquered Snowdon, the trio wanted to take on Ben Nevis simply because it’s the biggest!

We’ve all worked in the education sector for a number of years and wanted to raise money for a charity that helps children when they need it the most.

The Buddy Bag Foundation (BBF) provides backpacks to children going into emergency care, containing all the essential items a child needs like toiletries, pyjamas and socks as well as comfort items like books and teddies.

“We’re all feeling a bit nervous about the challenge! After one or two chilly practice walks, we now know to expect that at least one of us will need the toilet at an inconvenient location and someone else has a habit of charging ahead faster than the rest of us can walk! We’re walking up the highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Whernside, tomorrow (Saturday 7th May) as part of our training and will take lots of pictures along the way!

“We’re really happy to be raising money for a smaller charity that people may be unaware of. What they provide to children going into care is invaluable. Through our partnership with LACA we discovered their chosen charity of the year was BBF and were introduced to the valuable work they do. Any exposure and fundraising for this organisation would be a huge benefit to them and the children that they support.”

Good luck ladies! If you’d like to donate, please head to their fundraiser page.
