Glenorchy City Council and Prestige Paving streamline asset management in the cloud

Driving greater efficiencies and productivity using Civica’s Asset Edge Reflect solution

MELBOURNE, 13 October 2020: Civica, a global leader in software for public and community services, is pleased to announce two Australian public and community services organisations are the latest to benefit from shifting critical asset management to the cloud and drive greater productivity and efficiencies in their operations.

Glenorchy City Council, Tasmania’s fourth largest city located in the Greater Hobart metro area, and Victoria’s Prestige Paving, who perform footpath inspections for a number of the State’s councils, can now plan, record and analyse maintenance activities through a native cloud and mobile solution with Civica Asset Edge Reflect.

Used by more than 135 local government bodies across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania, Asset Edge Reflect allows public sector organisations to manage information relating to requests, inspections, defects, planned works, work orders and claims across a wide range of council assets. This includes roads, footpaths, bridges, and parks, with all maintenance recorded by staff in the field via a mobile device, eliminating paper completely.

Glenorchy City Council is the first Tasmanian customer to select and implement Asset Edge Reflect, going live in June this year just one month after signing the contract. This also included the migration of all pre-existing defect records into the platform.

“Glenorchy City Council was looking for a pavement management system and an inspection management software tool that would enable us to easily identify defects and then prioritise work programmes in an efficient and transparent manner,” says Clive Thompson, Works Manager, Glenorchy City Council.

“We selected Civica’s Asset Edge Reflect solution because we knew it would be easy to both use and adapt to our specific requirements.”

Previously the Council used paperwork to capture all data related to defect management. Since implementation, the organisation has experienced the benefits of the digital solution, which includes the mobility of hand held devices to easily capture identified defects on roads, footpaths, stormwater and parks, and the ability to allocate tasks to work crews for rectification of defects.

“The intent of acquiring an inspection and maintenance management software solution was to encourage us to develop a pavement management system from the bottom up,” Mr Thompson said.

“It has helped us to focus on intervention times, requirements, service levels, and inspection regimes.

“An additional benefit is that we no longer require staff to come to the depot, which was important with the threat of COVID-19 and minimising contact.”

Glenorchy City Council plans to use the data in the future to provide a live “score” of the network on a risk basis, which will assist them in forecasting and budgeting requirements, manage its obligations and service levels.

“We have already developed a Road Risk Rating scoring methodology based on hierarchy of road and defect severity. This will allow us to demonstrate the road risk rating in real time and demonstrate how we are performing regarding maintenance,” Mr Thompson said.

Likewise, Prestige Paving in Victoria is already enjoying the efficiencies provided by Asset Edge Reflect.

Pavel Aronovych, General Manager, Prestige Civil Group, says, “We chose Asset Edge Reflect because it’s a user-friendly and versatile solution that meets the dynamic requirements of our organisation. The unlimited data archive means our staff can easily upload inspection data from the field using mobile devices, ensuring that our record keeping for customers is comprehensive.”

“I’m delighted that we can welcome the Glenorchy City Council and Prestige Paving to Civica,” says Brett Barningham, Managing Director of Local Government.

“It has been great to see both already using the solution and experiencing direct benefits.

“Our Asset Edge mobile and cloud solutions are used by a large number of Councils and organisations across Australia and we are consistently listening to our customers to ensure that we can continue to bring the features that make their operations more efficient.”

Reflect is part of the Asset Edge suite of cloud and mobile applications for asset inspection and maintenance management. Solutions include Reflect for asset management, Recover for natural disaster management, Signum for temporary signage management, and the Nemus tree register.  Asset Edge Recover was recently awarded an Australian Business Award for mobile innovation [add link to website].
