Innovate UK launches Innovation Funding Service in partnership with Civica Digital

The Innovation Funding Service online platform supports growing number of post-Brexit grant applications and Innovate UK’s wider strategic digital transformation project

Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, has rolled out its new Innovation Funding Service (IFS), with assistance from Civica Digital, a division within the Civica Group which delivers end-to-end digital solutions. Civica worked with Innovate UK as one of the development partners on the project to fully digitise all processes within the IFS, a digital service which supports the entire funding process for UK businesses, from idea generation to impact reporting. Now live on www.gov.uk, the development of the new service extends the decade-long successful partnership between the two organisations.

Sarah Vodden, Service Manager at Innovate UK, says: “As with all public sector organisations, we are working towards the government-wide Digital Transformation strategy, but being Innovate UK means we have the added responsibility of needing to lead this charge with state-of-the-art systems. We felt assured that including Civica Digital in this project would allow us to achieve this – they have proven to be an asset time and time again. We are now looking forward to helping even more UK businesses access the vital innovation funding that we offer.”

Since its launch in 2007, Innovate UK has supported 7,600 businesses and helped create 55,000 jobs. In light of increased grant funding from Government, Innovate UK wanted to improve the management of a continually increasing number of applications. To deliver a better service, Innovate UK wanted a system that would allow it to record and store data digitally and make it easier to capture diversity information. It is also aiming to raise the quality of the end-user experience as well as internal information sharing and processes, especially when checking for fraud and avoiding manual errors.

Chris Doutney, managing director, Civica Digital, explains: “Innovate UK plays a vital role in helping to keep the UK at the forefront of digital innovation and we’re delighted to be supporting the organisation in this endeavour. The work we’re doing together demonstrates how organisations especially in the public sector can use digital solutions to transform services.”

To simplify and make the application process more intuitive, the system only asks for information to be submitted once and uses third-party interfaces such as postcode lookups and Companies House records. The service also allows applicants to access information and feedback on their application status and upload required documents in one place as well as receive updates via email. This will now provide Innovate UK with more automated and streamlined processes to better support organisations seeking funding.

This partnership is a great example of various teams working together and bringing best practice to the table to create a successful one-team approach. It’s another strong step-forward in our long-standing working relationship with Innovate UK and we look forward to seeing the partnership grow further.”
