Civica posts record results for Financial Year 2018

Strong new business performance with cloud products creates hundreds of local jobs and the establishment of global best practice to the benefit of Australian citizens

Sydney, March 19th 2019: Civica Group, an international software company and global leader in public services technology, has posted impressive revenue and earnings growth for its Australia and New Zealand business from its recently concluded 2018 Financial Year.

The result validates its model of growing the use of cloud-based software with new and existing customers, whilst both exporting locally developed software and bringing new technology and thinking from overseas to its Australian customers.

Revenue for the financial year across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore ended September 2018 was $185 million, up by 56 per cent from the previous year. Employee numbers have grown rapidly during the past year from 599 people to 1,350 in the region by the end of the year.

Civica’s activities in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore generates approximately 28 per cent of the Group’s global revenues.

Civica has a strong track record of taking locally developed software to the world. Its Spydus integrated library management system is developed in Melbourne but is now widely used in Singapore, New Zealand, the UK and US markets, with more than 4,000 installations worldwide.

Civica also brings new technologies and thinking from around the world to its Australian customers. Recently launched in Australia is a cloud-based social housing solution ‘Cx’, which has the needs of the tenant at the heart of its design. The system is now live with its first customer BaptistCare NSW & ACT, and has attracted significant interest from across the housing sector.

Civica recently acquired Geelong-based community services software company Icon Global Solutions (trading as Carelink) and is already seeking opportunities to export its cloud-based Carelink Plus software to Civica customers in the UK and other overseas markets.

Civica International Executive Director, Richard Fiddis, says, “We’ve grown very strongly organically and are very pleased that over 84 per cent of our new business last year came from our Cloud-based products, demonstrating our market-leading functionality and technology.

“We’re also very pleased to have acquired Carelink in the latter part of the year, which establishes Civica as a major player in the Community Care market. We are now able to give innovative Australian business like Carelink access to new overseas markets, which it would struggle to access on its own.”

The business has built an impressive footprint in Australia’s local government, education and health insurance industries largely through investment in local businesses. In 2018, the Department for Education South Australia signed up to Civica’s cloud Education Suite for its 900 schools. Around 40 per cent of public schools in Australia are now committed to the Civica Education Suite, which is developed in Perth.

In keeping with the wider Group, Civica invests 20 per cent of local revenue back into research and development in offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Geelong and Perth.

“We’re a fast-growing local business with global credentials,” Fiddis says. “We’re taking market share by providing our local clients with great technologies developed in Australia, or new capabilities from our overseas offices, or from acquisitions in innovative Australian businesses, enabling them to grow faster locally and overseas.”
