Civica acquires HR software specialist Carval

Group extends market-leading capability with acquisition of HR & payroll provider

The Civica Group, a market leader in business-critical software applications, digital solutions and outsourcing services, has announced that Civica UK Limited, the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, has acquired specialist software provider Carval Computing Limited.

Based in Plymouth and Newport Pagnell with offices in Harlow, Carval provides integrated HR and payroll systems and related payroll processing services. Its software applications are used in more than 300 installations, ranging from organisations with less than 100 employees to those with more than 10,000. Customers span both public and private sectors, such as Middlesbrough Council, Staffordshire Housing Association, multi-academy trust E-ACT, the Royal Mint and National Express.

Carval's flexible HR systems include cloud-based solutions, employee self-service technology and mobile apps, providing an efficient modern platform for people, workforce and payroll management. The acquisition brings complementary capability which the Group does not currently offer, adding to Civica’s broad portfolio of business critical applications and strengthening its capability to expand on the current market presence of both organisations.

Carval has continued to perform well into 2017, including new contracts with customers including, among others, CGS Trust, Chelsea Academy and Essex Fire & Rescue Service.

Wayne Story, chief executive of Civica said, “I am delighted to welcome Carval to the Group. The team brings a strong capability with a product set that is very well placed to respond to evolving customer needs. Moreover, since the strength of Civica lies in our people and our culture, Carval’s similar commitment as an Investors in People business is equally important."

“Being part of Civica will allow us to continue our current programmes targeted at bringing the most effective modern technology to our customers, with access to a broader set of complementary capabilities and a strong operating platform. The acquisition provides opportunities for the company to build on our success as part of a larger Group which is one of the strongest of its kind and an employer of choice.”
