Civica showcases the writing talents of young Singaporean students

Singapore, July 24 2019: Civica, an international leader in software for public services, is pleased to announce the winners of the Tales of ‘S’ creative writing competition for young Singaporeans. Tales of ‘S’, currently in its 9th year, is open to all school students in Singapore, encouraging them to express their original ideas through creative writing and become a published author in the process. By showcasing young writing talent the competition aims to support the Singapore education system’s objective1 of bringing out the best in each child by enabling them to discover their talents and develop a passion for learning that lasts a lifetime.

Every year Civica invites students to participate in the Tales of ‘S’ writing competition by submitting an original short story to match a theme, this year’s being “Voyage of Discovery.” Students were asked to write a fictional or a personal story of “discovery,” which might include a journey of self-realisation, discovering untapped potential or the discovery of new lands. This year’s theme inspired 475 entries from 52 different schools. Of these, 40 winning entries will be developed into a downloadable e-book. These talented newly published authors will be recognised at an upcoming award ceremony and book launch where they will receive a limited edition hard copy featuring their stories.

Jenny Yow, Managing Director, Civica Singapore, congratulated the winners and thanked all the participants for their hard work. She said, “Tales of ‘S’ nurtures imagination and creativity, and encourages students to start thinking ‘out of the box’ at a very young age. Now in its 9th year, the competition has consistently received a great response from schools and students and has become an eagerly awaited event in their academic calendars.”

A world-leading cloud software provider, Civica has been operating school media resources and libraries on behalf of the Singapore’s Ministry of Education for over 14 years, and is the only authorised WDA (Singapore Workforce Development Agency) training organisation to provide industry certified Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) courses in library services for its own employees in Singapore. Civica’s services are built on the foundation of our market-leading Spydus cloud software, which is at the forefront of library innovation, helping libraries embrace their role as modern-day digital public spaces.

“Civica helps schools and engages teachers and students alike. We offer cloud-based software solutions that streamline administration, allowing school staff to focus on more strategic tasks and spend more time with the students. Our training programmes and initiatives such as the Tales of ‘S’ help Singapore teachers mould their students into responsible adults, who will have a positive impact on the future of this nation,” she added.
