Our history

Since Civica was established in 2001, we’ve grown to become one of the UK’s largest software companies and a global leader in software for public services. During that time, our team has grown to 5,500 colleagues, one-third of whom have worked in the sectors we serve. With long-lasting customer relationships and a strong track record of delivery, we’ve produced 22 years of solid year on year growth.

With a long pedigree in supporting local government, we established our Housing & Communities division in 2007 to serve a wide range of social housing, community protection and emergency service providers. In 2009 we formed our UK Health & Care division, followed by expanding our education activities globally in 2012. Building on our support for central government departments and agencies, we formed our Central Government division in 2016 to expand our work as a trusted partner for government digital services.

Our cloud-first strategy has seen Civica significantly increase the adoption of cloud software, with our broad range of solutions now used by 4,000 customers. More recently, while growing the use of our software, we have increased momentum with strategic developments focused on cloud, digital enablement, software innovation and data analytics. During 2019 we also launched our North Star ‘lab’ to build on our position as an innovation leader and accelerate applying new ideas and technologies for customers.

Acquiring new software capability and innovation

In addition to organic growth, acquisitions are a core part of our strategy. The Group has a highly successful record of acquiring and integrating businesses that add market breadth and depth in line with our strategic focus and expand our scale of the opportunity. We have completed more than 35 acquisitions in the last 10 years, adding software assets and expertise in response to evolving customer needs and market developments.

Most recently, these have included:

2022 Malinko Health & Care Technologies, Momentum Healthware, Point Progress, Technology Forge
2021 ntropy data, Medical Billing and Collections, ArborSafe Australia Pty, Calibrand, Dox Software
2020 InfoFlex, Fretwell-Downing, Parago Software, Agylia Group, Equiniti HR Solutions
2019 TranSend Solutions, Asset Edge Pty, Warwick International Computing Systems
2018 OneStep Solutions, VisionWare, Nationwide Retail Systems, CareLink, iCasework, Electoral Reform Services, Trac System

Following the acquisition and integration of the ERS Group in 2018, we launched our Democracy & Engagement division. This provides a market-leading capability to support customers internationally in election management and democratic services, membership engagement and governance and is helping to accelerate digital democracy.

Sustained development and growth

Since its formation, we have maintained a strong track record of operational and financial performance. The Group has delivered long-term revenue and profits growth across two decades underpinned by balanced investment in our people, products, and platform. With a clear focus on helping our customers to improve public services, we continue to expand our business and create new opportunities for the benefit of all stakeholders.
