Civica employees find new ways to give back to the community

At Civica we encourage our people to get involved in community and charitable initiatives, both in their own time and through our annual Donate-A-Day scheme

Through our Donate-A-Day flexible benefit, Civica employees can take an extra day off work each year to participate in a charitable or community initiative for a charity of their choice. Last year saw many of our people engage in the scheme, alongside taking part in a large number of office bake and boot sales, dressing up or down initiatives, to name just a few, for a variety of local and national charities - some even undertook more daring challenges including abseiling!

Our Australian colleagues extended their altruism by mentoring migrant women seeking work in the country, helping to reduce food waste by supporting food rescue charity Ozharvest and spending time in a youth prison for Whitelion. This year, a number of our colleagues are bravely getting geared up for the Whitelion Three Peaks Challenge, walking alongside the very people they’ll be supporting: at-risk youth who benefit from the charity’s programmes.

Meanwhile, our UK employees have supported a range of causes with supporting the homelessness amongst them. Over 35 coats were collected for the Wrap Up Manchester appeal to help keep the homeless warm during the winter months and roughly the cost of six hotel rooms was donated to the Raise the Roof Hull Homeless project, providing the most needy of citizens access to a bed, privacy and a shower.

Our people have also surprised us too in their unabashed willingness to help. One fellow colleague said farewell to over 15 years’ worth of hair growth, with the sponsorship supporting Crohn’s & Colitis UK. A valiant group of 14 conquered the Uphill Quarry to abseil for Action for Children under the British sun, and this year sees our Civica Marathon Team raise funds for NSPCC by taking on the 26 mile challenge.
