Hello, I’m Mohak Talreja and I work as a Junior Software Engineer at Civica, Vadodara

My journey with Civica

Since joining Civica in December 2019 there’s been no turning back! When I was first seeking work I wasn’t entirely sure about what I should be looking for in an employer. I was simply keen to be a part of an organisation that would provide ample growth opportunities in Vadodara. When I heard about Civica’s approach and values, I was very eager to join. Plus, I was offered a role where I could use the skills gained from my degree.

A people-centric organisation

As I expected, Civica has turned out to be a fantastic place to work. It’s a kind of workplace where you can easily take on new responsibilities and enjoy a varied day. I’ve found our management to be very positive, which really helps in taking responsibility and delivering quality output.

As well, our workplace culture encourages you to have fun: it’s refreshing to take part in various events and celebrations. Since we’re a people-centric organisation, the culture here is more inclusive, transparent and equal, despite how different we all are. Many of my colleagues here have come from outside Vadodara which speaks volumes about our values.

The graduate trainee programme has equipped me to be industry-ready

I first joined the Horizons Graduate Training Programme for a couple of months to train up on soft skills and technical ones related to development, database deployment and agile methodology. I now feel equipped for future projects and feel industry-ready. The Civica Academy has also encouraged me to keep learning, by taking up online courses on platforms such as Pluralsight, as well as by joining interesting workshops and webinars.

I feel supported to fulfil my potential

When I completed the programme, I was assigned a project with our Pensions team which is what I’m currently working on. I first received relevant project training and now work as a developer for our Pensions app by deploying work on the database side. I work with a fantastic team who are helping me to learn and challenge myself every day.

One of the sweetest things that I’ve observed is that wherever they’re based, if I ever feel stuck in my work or need help, there’s always a colleague ready to help me. That’s what I admire the most.  

Civica encourages you to grow and succeed

What stands out for me most of all, is how people-centric we are. You’re really encouraged to grow and succeed. Our global team works hard to be supportive and reassuring. The sheer variety of work also inspires me to broaden my horizons. By being a part of Civica, I’ve gained a valuable insight into the bigger picture, learning quickly how your own work relates to your colleagues’, and the company as a whole. You are visible to everyone and it’s heartening to know everyone’s name when you run into people around the building.
