Solution Architect Lead (Payments Software)

Location: Home working + Altrincham


Joining our rapidly growing Payments business, the Solutions Architect Lead will play a key role providing architectural vision, strategy and oversight to the software development team, ensuring that there is a clearly defined architectural long-term vision.  They will ensure that development has all relevant standards, defining processes, tools and measures for adherence to the goal of producing sustainably high quality, secure, scalable software.  Key objectives include:

  • Moving the product set from private to public cloud
  • Rationalising the product set

Accountabilities include:

Define and own a technical strategy, covering:

  • Technical architecture definition, maintenance, ownership and communication
  • Solution architecture definition, ownership and communication in line with goal architecture
  • Scope to include development, test and production architecture and infrastructure
  • Definition of development process tooling and processes, as well as standards definition and monitoring, liaising with relevant teams, covering requirements, design, build, test and deployment


  • Communicating, influencing and selling of technical strategy and tactical solutions to executive / senior management and key stakeholders both within Civica and customers
  • Ensuring solution design and development is performed in line with these standards and vision, fully meeting business requirements
  • Raise and escalate any necessary technical issues or risks
  • Setting and assistance in defining non-functional requirements, including but not limited to availability, supportability, performance, scalability and security
  • Provision of regular management reporting on planning, progress, issues, risks and actions
  • All relevant documentation within scope of remit is created, maintained, up to date, approved and available

About You

Essential Skills:

  • 5+ years commercial experience in Solutions Architecture role, ideally at Senior / Team Lead level, (ideally having come from a MS .Net software development background)
  • Ideally either Payments sector or Financial Services sector or Software House experience  
  • Highly proficient in Public cloud technical architecture solutions (Azure)
  • Strong commercial skills
  • Client facing skills
  • Excellent communication skills / influencing skills
  • Expert in software development best practice, tools and techniques
  • Wide experience and skills in modern, leading edge technologies
  • DevOps practices, processes, tools & techniques beneficial
  • Agile PM skills beneficial
  • PCI / PA-DSS knowledge beneficial
