National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage 2017
From 1st April 2017, the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage are changing.
The minimum wage a worker should get depends on their age and if they’re an apprentice.The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to. The National Living Wage is higher than the National Minimum Wage - workers get it if they’re over 25. It doesn’t matter how small an employer is, they still have to pay the correct minimum wage. Here are the rates for 2017:
- 25 and over £7.50
- 21 to 24 £7.05
- 18 to 20 £5.60
- Under 18 £4.05
- Apprentice £3.50
If you are currently paying any of your employees less than the stated hourly rate for their age group, you must increase this starting from 1st April 2017. This applies to everyone in every business.
Minimum wage rates are maintained in the Government Parameters section of Civica Payroll software (previously Carval Uniwage Payroll Software) and exceptions flagged during payroll reporting.
