Did you know 25% of UK high school pupils have used e-cigarettes?

NHS research shows interesting statistics about the attitudes to use e-cigarettes from minors.

  • 36% thought it was ok for people their age to try an e-cigarette
  • 24% thought it was ok to use an e-cigarette once a week

The statistics are a worrying fact. But more importantly, the sale of vaping products to minors is a criminal offence – it’s also classified as a strict liability offence. This means the enforcing authority does not have to prove the retailer intended to commit an offence, but must prove a breach of the law has been committed.

For retailers to avoid incurring fines of up to £2,500, they must prove they have taken all reasonable precautions and exercised all due diligence to avoid the sale of vape products to minors.

Interestingly, the UK Vaping Industry Association and Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards has produced guidance for businesses. It offers best practice advice and steps to avoid breaches of the law and incurring hefty fines.
