Summary

Working as a Lead User Researcher in our Group UX Practice, you’ll be working with multidisciplinary teams to research, understand and communicate user needs across the development lifecycle (from pre-discovery to live services).

You’ll be responsible for planning and designing user research activities, identifying the best methods based on your goals and users. You will carry out user research with diverse users, championing participation in research with the project team. You will conduct analysis of research data to draw out deeper understanding and insight into your users and communicate what you learn with the team and stakeholders.

As a Lead User Researcher you will advise on the delivery of excellent user experience across multiple products in a wide variety of sectors and geographies. The type of work ranges from large platform builds to web-based applications and mobile apps.

As you develop in your role, you will be responsible for setting and managing project direction and scope with customers, mentoring junior colleagues to cultivate capabilities, and supporting development of the user research services within the UX practice.

Essential Skills required:

  • 5+ years’ experience of User Research (a portfolio is desirable), with recent experience at a Senior / Lead User Research level
  • Ability to plan user research activities, creating research plans, guides and scripts;
  • Experience in a range of primary and secondary research methods (e.g. interviews, observation, focus groups, card sorts, surveys, analytics or competitor analysis);
  • Ability to design and conduct usability testing sessions, both remotely and face-to-face;
  • Experience in applying qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques;
  • Ability to create effective research outputs (e.g. user needs, personas, journeys, maps);
  • Experience of delivering user research in an Agile framework, working with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. Product Owners, UX Designers, Business Analysts, Developers);
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, as a sole UX practitioner or as part of a team on a project;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, comfortable dealing with uncertainty, ambiguity and conflict to drive change;
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships, with the ability to be a thought partner/coach to clients and internal team;
  • Strong influencing, negotiation and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation), confident working with people at all levels of an organisation;
  • A positive approach to upholding confidentiality and conducting inclusive, ethical research;
  • A passion for user research, and an eagerness to learn new skills and apply newly acquired knowledge;
  • Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance.
