Transforming services at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust through Data. Information. Knowledge.

Occupational health services have people at the heart of what they do. Services are very often delivered by busy departments within organisations or independent occupational health providers. Constantly delivering good quality services and improving productivity and employee performance are some of the challenges that face occupational health departments today.

The Occupational Health department within Stockport NHS Foundation Trust has been utilising eOPAS software for over five years. The hospital’s slogan ‘Your Health. Our Priority’, demonstrates that they put people at the centre of everything they do and are dedicated to providing high-quality care and positive patient experience. As well as Stepping Hill Hospital, they run 24 health centres and community clinics in Stockport and see 580,000 hospital and community patients a year. It’s a big operation.

Before the introduction of eOPAS their occupational health department looked and operated very differently. When patients entered the reception and were checked in, their personnel records were retrieved from numerous floor to ceiling height roller cabinets.

Today Stockport’s Occupational Health department’s reception is clear of files and space has been utilised for value add work. There is a considerable improved turnaround time on management reports that are available within 48 hours. Clinicians now scan data directly into the system. Collecting and having access to data through eOPAS, storing the information securely and using the reports to gain insights and knowledge provides the opportunity for enhanced service and continual improvement.

The Occupational Health department within Stockport NHS Foundation Trust measures success by participating in MOHAWK and benchmark themselves against other occupational health services and routine monitoring of our key performance indicators. Their Occupational Health Team consists of nine full-time and eight part-time staff. Their daily services include Health Surveillance Audio, Respiratory, Skin, HAV, Confined Space, Driver Medicals, Working at Height, Asbestos, Lead, Ionising Radiation, Management referrals & Ill Health Retirement/ Pension medicals, Pre-placement both NHS & Non-NHS also Immunisations, contact screening and control of infection.
