Opportunity, success and development: Civica from a non-technical background
I joined Civica eight years ago, having been recommended by a former colleague. I had no tech background, my experiences were in leadership, business change and operations. Civica was really pushing to recruit people with a skillset like mine: proactive and customer focussed problem solvers.
My first role with Civica was as Operations Director in Community Protection. I had a ‘baptism of fire’ as you can probably imagine but it soon became apparent the customers and teams were responding well to my engagement style!
I implemented changes to improve operational delivery including working as part of the team developing Centum initiatives and piloting and bringing in what became the PPM toolkit. Off the back of these successes, one of my biggest achievements was winning Civica’s very first Executive Achievement Award, which was such a proud moment.
My next move was into the Digital team as Resourcing Director, which involved developing and implementing ways of working to make sure we had the right people in the right places to deliver professional services for our customers. As our Women in Tech lead, I also had the opportunity to implement initiatives and succeeded in improving our female representation in the professional services team.
Following my time in Digital, I took a new opportunity in Civica’s Housing team. I came in to drive change through and implemented improvements in the delivery of the Housing projects. Then, my family had a bit of a hiccup and Civica supported me taking a six month sabbatical which was incredible really… and when I came back (part-time) I moved into a new role in Housing as Customer Services Director, a customer facing role which I thoroughly enjoyed.
During my sabbatical (and lockdown) I started volunteering supporting Shout – a crisis text helpline which is part of the ‘Heads Up’ campaign sponsored by the Princes Trust. I also use my Civica Donate-a-Day (a fully-paid day for charity work) to support Shout.
I’m now working in the Payments team in the LTX division - which tots up as the fourth area of Civica I’ve worked in! I’m grateful for and can’t speak highly enough of our Civica Academy for the support it provides to help us all achieve our goals. I’ve collaborated with so many people who are keen to see me reach my full potential and people who I’m keen to see reach theirs.
