Highways England sheds light on its assets with technology from Civica
The introduction of the Highways England Technology Performance Management Service (TPMS) has enabled the Agency to improve its management of £1.5bn worth of 150,000 electronic roadside assets, such as electronic road signs and speed indicators.
Civica was contracted to design and build a centralised system to give Highways England a single view of its roadside assets and the components they’re made up of.
Important outcomes of the project include:
- A streamlined maintenance process capable of handling high volumes of asset fault updates
- The ability to identify troublesome components and replace these before they cause problems – thereby saving millions of pounds in maintenance costs
- The TPMS system played an important role in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics, enabling Highways England to proactively replace potentially problematic assets ahead of the Games and thereby keep disruptions to an absolute minimum
Civica’s system enhances and builds upon current workflows and processes, rather than requiring us to drastically change the way we work.”
