Working within our Altrincham Office we require a Technical Consultant / DBA to provide technical expertise and advice both for customers and internally to the business. This is primarily as an Oracle & SQL Server DBA but with some elements of Windows, Unix, storage and networks.

Project Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of technical services that are professional, timely and meet or exceed the customers’ expectations
  • Actively engage in the escalation of problems and contribute to decision making regarding potential courses of action
  • Maintenance of the relevant technical documentation that is produced and maintained by H&SC
  • Assisting with pre-sales technical evaluations
  • Installations and upgrades of Oracle or SQL Server database instances on customer sites (usually remotely) and internally
  • Input to the software development team on database design, as part of the Paris design and analysis process
  • General trouble-shooting of 3-tier distributed installations (Windows, DCOM, Oracle)
  • The role is office based but with occasional on-site work as required
  • Some out of hours work will be required, for example upgrading customer systems at weekends or evenings

Required Skills:

  • Practical knowledge Oracle databases, PL/SQL programming and SQL Server administration
  • A minimum of three years hands-on experience as Oracle DBA for a production system.
  • Implementation or support of hosted, high-availability systems
  • Experience of trouble-shooting, tuning, and data fixing, in an Oracle environment
  • Input to the software development team on database design, as part of the Paris design and analysis process
  • General trouble-shooting of 3-tier distributed installations (Windows, Unix, Oracle, DCOM)
  • Experience and working knowledge of Windows environments is desirable
  • Some exposure to business processes analogous to those used in the Health or Social Care sector
  • Experience of working to ISO9000 standards
  • Aptitude and enthusiasm to take the lead in complex and unpredictable technical situations
  • Ability to work without supervision and in client-facing environments
  • Experience of dealing with customers
  • Experience of dealing with multiple customer systems in a managed service environment.
  • Degree level education in IT related subject
