Working within our Bristol Office we require a Software developer to design, develop and implement software solutions while collaborating with the Team Leader and the Product Development Manager. You will be expected to play a leading role in championing technical best practice as well as providing guidance for others where required. You should be comfortable with architecting and implementing solutions with minimal guidance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Use appropriate agile practices and tools to efficiently develop new software, and change existing code. E.g. pair-programming, test driven development, user stories, code reviews etc.
  • Write great code!
  • Be a champion for product quality on behalf of our customers
  • Actively participate with the team in agile planning, reviews and retrospectives
  • Review reported software defects (internal and external) to determine impact, risk and necessary action
  • Analyse requirements to assess impact and risk, verify acceptance criteria, identify technical solutions, scope and size development work
  • Keep up to date with development technology and practices. Make suggestions for how we can improve
  • Effectively use internal systems including version control, work tracking and time recording to meet the business requirements.
  • Ensure that knowledge is shared across the team and necessary documentation is created and maintained.
  • Work with external teams (e.g. offshore) as necessary, providing guidance and support, and ensuring high quality deliverables.
  • Engage with customers and other stakeholders as necessary to get the job done
  • Report issues to management as and when they arise in a suitable and timely manner

Required Skills:

  • Proven programming skills within .Net development – C#, ASP.Net (5+ years commercial experience)
  • Experienced in reporting technologies and reports production ideally in a Web environment and as part of a software product.
  • Good understanding and experience of web best practice and web development using JScript, HTML, XML, XSL, AJAX etc.
  • Good database (ideally Microsoft SQL Server) and SQL programming experience
  • Collaborative team player and natural problem solver
  • Great communication skills (including with customers and with remote teams via conferencing)
  • “Can do” attitude. Willing and able to take the initiative and work on multiple projects in parallel, prioritising as required
  • Demonstrate continual improvement approach in all aspects of work
